The American Dental Association Recommends a Dental Exam Twice a Year

Posted .

The American Dental Association is passionate and dedicated to helping people to maintain good oral health in the long term. To that end, they offer a series of recommendations and guidelines.

This starts with an effective and consistent daily oral hygiene routine, founded on brushing your teeth twice each day and flossing once daily.

Another important recommendation calls for having a routine dental exam and cleaning performed twice each year. Each of these critical appointments at Oxford Lakes Dental Care is designed to examine and address all aspects of maintaining good oral health.

This starts with a professional dental cleaning performed by one of Dr. Sahutske and Dr. Sahutske’s highly-skilled dental hygienists. Once all tartar and plaque buildup has been removed from your teeth and gum line, the hygienist will then polish your teeth. This will remove minor surface stains. If you have more significant stains, you will need further whitening measures to be performed by our dentists.

Once this is done, Drs. Sahutske and Sahutske will examine your teeth and gums. If they find any signs of tooth decay or periodontal disease, our dentists will present you with viable treatment options. At the end of the exam, Dr. Sahutske and Dr. Sahutske will perform a basic screening for signs of oral or pharyngeal cancer.

If you live in the Oxford, Michigan, area and you haven’t had a dental exam in a while, you should call 248-628-2540 to schedule a checkup].
